Because that was a very common myth Twin Blade when the game first came out.

Also, many new players have trouble understanding why low requirement weapons are worth SO much more if they are functionally identical. Its a perfectly valid question, and isn't dumb at all. Better to ask and find out then not ask and have a incorrect assumption about game mechanics.

But the answer is no.

im afraid not, the only reason a low req weapon is more preferable is if you cant spare the points

they do in a sence as you have to put in more points into the mastery to use them, but as you increase your mastery, your chance of crit also increases, so you do overall more damage

the weapons don't do more damage themselves, but high req weapons force you to put in extra points in the mastery

You're wrong, increasing your weapon mastery increases the damage you do even without the crits.

Yea is a confusing calculation, but in the short run (and WAY easier to say) no. But the LONG and hard to understand version is yes there is a difference in damage output (i know because i asked this question myself). Basically you will do SLIGHTLY more damage at 12 then at 9. The difference is minimal and really, i wouldn't suggest puting the effort in making a build just for a 2-3 extra damage from r12 then from r9.

At attribute 9, you deal 77% of stated damage; at attribute 12 you deal 100%, plus all the gains from more crits and higher damage from attack skills. That's pretty significant.

But 100% of HOW much damage? If it is, say 20, then 100% of 20 is 20 and 77% is 15.4 not a huge difference. But even at 20 strength, you only have a 20% chance to land a critical hit. That's pretty low imo.

Strength has nothing whatsoever to do with critical hits.
Weapon mastery increases the chance to critical with every additional attribute point.

No, strength DOES have something to deal with crits, but since it only applies to crits in strength skills its usually always overlooked.

100% of whatever damage your weapon does.

You could try reading the link.

Strength applies to any attack skill, not just those that are strength-based.

I'm going to agree with Savio. in Isle of the Nameless auto-attacking against a 60AL target with an uncustomized furious Runic blade Req 9 with Swordsmanship att of 12, I was dealing on average the upper range of the sword's 15-22. With an attribute of 9, matching the sword's requirement, I was only hitting an average of 15 or so, on the 60AL target. this is removing the critical hits.

On the 100AL target, I was hitting averages of 10 and 7, with attributes of 12 and 9, respectively.

All tests were performed with a static 12 Strength attribute.

Not a myth, it's the real deal. BUT, you don't deal more damage from a Req 9 sword than you do with a Req 12 sword all else being equal, you just NEED the 12 att points to use the R12 sword to its fullest potential.
